Emma McGinnis Book Review--Pleasing the Ghost by Sharon Creech

Pleasing the Ghost

Author: Sharon Creech

Review By: Emma McGinnis

Overview: Pleasing the Ghost is about a boy named Dennis who-after his father dies-gains the ability to see ghosts. The adventure starts when Dennis’s uncle Arvie joins the list of ghosts Dennis can see. Arvie had a stroke before he died and now speaks in his own language. The only people that understand Arvie’s language are Dennis and Uncle Arvie’s wife, Julia. Unfortunately, Julia cannot see Arvie-she can smell him though-and Dennis cannot understand everything Arvie says, so when Arvie asks Dennis for “three pleases” (three favors) problems arise.
