Reindeer were prancing all around the library this morning as the Preschool Story Time group wore their reindeer hats as theylistened to the story "Where's Prancer" and the inter-active story of "The Very Hungry Reindeer" where they fed the reindeer all kinds of strange things. "Pin the Nose on Rudolph" was enjoyed by everyone, and they also danced the Reindeer Pokey and had a "Reindeer Parade" through the library.
Monday afternoon the children in grades 1-5 made frosted Christmas cookies. They also learned to draw a Santa face to scale using 4 quadrants, and they played "Roll a Reindeer" where they drew a reindeer with the toss of the dice! Sorry some of the photos didn't turn out.

The Little Gingerbread Man was running around Preschool Story Time today. We listened to the traditional story and then we heard a new, different version called "The Gingerbread Cowboy." After the stories, we got to make salt/cinnamon dough ornaments in the shape of gingerbread men. The children really got into the rolling out the dough and using the gingerbread man cookie cutter to get their shapes. Then they used plastic beads to make buttons, eyes, and other features. The ornaments will dry in 24-48 hours into a hard shape that they can hang on the tree or around the house. The cinnamon smell will stay on/in the ornament for a long time. The children also got to eat a real gingerbread cookie so they would know the taste of ginger.

The story of Hansel and Gretel was the focus of story time today. We talked about how most stories have good guys and bad guys, to make the story interesting. We also stressed that in fairy tales, we can pretend that a wicked witch is going to eat little children, but we know that's not real. They listened very intently to the story of Hansel and Gretel. Everyone got an Itsy Bitsy Little Book about the letter H.
We decorated the gingerbread house coloring pages with real peppermint swirl candy and gumdrops, then we played some Freeze Tag while a few others went into the main library and spread "bread crumbs" in a trail like Hansel did. The others tracked them down by following the trail of crumbs. Everyone seemed to enjoy doing it over and over!
FOLLOWING THE TRAIL OF BREAD CRUMBS
THE GOOD LITTLE BIRDIES PICKED UP ALL THE PAPER BREAD CRUMBS!
WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO LIVE IN A HOUSE DECORATED IN CANDY!!!
